Porcelain Patio Quotes in Barnet: What a Fair Price Should Include
Updated: 6 hours ago
Two porcelain patio quotes for the same garden can be thousands of pounds apart, and the cheaper one is not always the better deal. Most of the difference is in what you cannot see once the slabs are down: the dig-out, the base and the bedding. Here is how we price porcelain patios in Barnet and Enfield, and what a fair quote should spell out.

What actually drives the price
Size and access. A small front patio with easy access is quicker than a back garden where every bag of sand goes through the house or down a side passage.
Dig-out and base. Old paving, concrete or soil has to come out and be taken away, then a compacted sub-base goes in. This is the part that stops a patio sinking or rocking later.
The slabs themselves. Porcelain varies a lot in price by size, finish and brand. Large-format slabs look sleek but need more careful handling and cutting.
Cutting. Porcelain is hard and needs a wet saw and a steady hand. Gullies, manholes, curves and steps all add cutting time.
Drainage and levels. The patio must fall away from the house and water needs somewhere to go. Extra drainage adds cost but prevents puddles and damp.
Extras. Steps, edging, raised beds, walls and lighting are usually priced separately.
What a proper written quote should list
The area in square metres and the exact slab, colour and size
How deep the dig-out is and what sub-base is used
How the slabs are bedded, and that porcelain will be primed and fully bedded rather than laid on dabs of mortar
The jointing method and colour
Waste removal and skip or grab lorry
Payment stages and the guarantee in writing
If a quote is one line saying "supply and lay porcelain patio" with a single number, ask for the breakdown. A good installer will happily give it.
Warning signs
A large deposit before any work starts
Cash only, no written quote, no business address
No mention of the base or how the slabs are bedded
No insurance or guarantee
How we laid this porcelain patio in Barnet EN5
This front patio in Barnet EN5 used large-format light grey porcelain with a stone-effect finish. We prepared and levelled the base, laid each slab on a full bed with spacers to keep the joints straight, cut neatly around the drainage gully and existing walls, then pointed the joints with a dark compound for a crisp grid. See the full Barnet EN5 porcelain patio project.

For a bigger example, our garden makeover in Barnet EN4 combined a porcelain patio with rendered benches, new fencing and lawn.
